Lighthouse Zeebrugge

The lighthouse on the Leopold II Dam has marked the harbour entrance of Zeebrugge since 1905. The round concrete tower with its red lantern is one of the oldest landmarks of the port.
What can you expect at the Zeebrugge lighthouse?
- History: The tower was built when the new port opened. It was badly damaged during the British raid on Zeebrugge on 23 April 1918 and later repaired.
- Building: The unpainted concrete tower is about 18 metres tall and stands on a small round building. Its light shines some 22 metres above the water.
- More lighthouses: On the Heist side stand the red and white leading lights of 1977 and an old leading light from 1907.
Practical information
- Visit: The tower and the dam are in the port area and closed to visitors. You see the lighthouse best from the beach, the promenade or on a harbour boat trip.
- Surroundings: On the quay sits the lightship West-Hinder II from 1950, and the resort has memorials to the 1918 raid.
Anyone who loves ports and ships should take a look at the Zeebrugge lighthouse.
